Story-The story is of the main character Kenny who we first see caring for his mother in his house as she asks for help with the smallest of tasks including grabbing the remote and picking up food. Kenny goes to work at the food shop and we see he is clearly struggling at the food place with a scene of him struggling to serve a customer. He comes home to find his mother in bad health so they go to the hospital. At the hospital the rest of the family shows up and most of these side characters do not seem to care for her asking very simple questions and not showing much care for the dying mother. Tod seems to be the only child that she actually cares about recalling him as her favourite son. After some talk with Kenny and Todd about how life is going the mother finally dies and Kenny goes home to the house with all of the belongings of the mother.
Character-Kenny seems to be the main character with his life not going well. We see this through a bunch of scenes including the one with his mother with her asking him for simple commands like him picking up the remote and setting up the tv for her. When the mother is ill the son called Todd shows up and he is clearly meant to be the most comedic character with the nurses constantly asking him for photographs and praising him for his famous podcast that he runs. Todd also seems to be the only one apart from Kenny that cares about the mother somewhat. When the mother speaks its clear she is sick of seeing Kenny and wants to see Todd because of his fame and how successful he is compared to Kenny. The other side character show little to no interest in the mother and seem disappointed in the fact that she may live. The entire family seems to be dysfunctional .
Sound design- The sound design in the film almost feels isolated with no sound being wasted including the beeping of the monitor and waiting for it to stop this was clearly to build suspension through the scene and it pays of when the sound stops and it is clear that she is dead. There is also a lot of music used especially towards the start with Kenny playing the guitar well at the start to show he Is a musician. The film also ends with Kenny practicing the guitar at the end. All of the dialogue is very sombre and well picked out in order to be both comedic and depressing at the same time. The dialogue also works to build the sombre tone of the hospital.
Cinematography- The camera shots in the film were simple shots as they did not use to need advanced camera shots as most of the scenes were just of the characters talking to either the mother or each other. There were some standout shows one of these was at the start with kennys work with the use of the music with the skater boy cutting out some of the dialogue, Kenny attempts to ask a question to the customer with the music blocking out what Kenny is trying to say as the camera cuts back to the skater boy. There were some wide shows towards the ending of the film with Kenny practicing his guitar on the stage with all of the band equipment behind him to show that nobody is coming to band practice and he is all alone at the end of the film.
